After twenty years of working closely at Bonnie People and Kaptentjies, we entered a moment no one had planned for.
Administrative and financial challenges on the Luxembourg side meant that we could not continue providing the support the project relied on. It was unexpected and difficult, and it raised the urgent question of how the schools and programs could continue without interruption.
In this moment, the Spirit Foundation stepped in.

They first helped bridge the gap, and later took over the full responsibility for the schools and the daily operations. Spirit Foundation now continues the project within their own values and structures, ensuring that the children and families in Bonnievale remain supported, stable, and safe.
Even if this transition was not planned, it eventually became something meaningful:
the long-term goal of creating a project that could continue in South Africa - independent from Luxembourg — became reality far earlier than we expected.
After this period, we made a conscious decision about our own organisation.
Instead of leading and financing one single project alone, Bonnievale Projects Luxembourg ASBL chose to return to its roots:
to remain a voluntary ASBL, to co-finance, to support, and to stand beside strong local organisations rather than carry everything alone.
This opened the way to a new partnership — a partnership that aligns deeply with our values and the spirit of our work.
